Stella McCartney and a take on sustainability
What does Sustainability mean to you? We have been hearing about the term a lot lately. Every business wants to go and be sustainable somehow, even if they sometimes don’t understand what it truly means.
The apparel industry is the second largest polluter in the world and this makes me cringe. For years I have felt the personal need to do something about it. I started awakening my conscious mind on the topic for the last 3 years. I was formally introduced to the sustainability culture back while studying at The New School, and since then it has stayed with me on a daily basis. No more fur, less water consumption, less meat consumption, less plastic, more wise buying…
Why do I love Stella McCartney? For me she is the best example of a leader in the luxury fashion. The biggest impact about Stella McCartney is not only the use of environmentally friendly textiles and the fact that she has never used leather for her brand. The real contribution is that she has been able to come up with inspiring and beautiful designs every season, in combination to having the technological and ethical parts take part of the DNA of the house.
If the DNA breathes sustainability and actually is the foundation of the brand, that is quite magical. Thank you Stella for bringing real and modern values. Believing in them opens a very important conversation for the next generation. We should be more reflective on our personal choices consumption-wise. Caring for our world and for others means knowing that every single action we have as consumers has repercussions in the short and long term on earth.
