On life choices
Mexico City, October 6th
What are those simple pleasures in life? To me, life means to enjoy it little by little. Having your favorite cup of coffee or tea in the morning while listening to a great song. However, there is also another kind of pleasures, those ones that will make you live your life with purpose. I like waking up knowing that my day will be meaningful to me and to others. That is the beauty in life: to be interconnected with the others. With your family, friends, your community, with the entire world.
I am sharing this with you because the past month has been a moment of reflection and of going back to my roots. I decided not to attend the main fashion weeks (NY, London, Milan, Paris) because I wanted to gain perspective on where my life was and where I wanted it to be headed.
As soon as I finished Parsons this May -there is an article coming up on that subject too- , I went traveling mostly for work. After not being able to stay for more than a week or two in the same place, I started questioning whether what I was doing was contributing to my future or actual goals in the best possible way. With some concentration, I realized I needed to start a new project that allowed me to merge all aspects and interests my mind and soul carry right now.
When I was at Parsons two of my favorite subjects were Gender studies and Sustainability. Those topics intrigued me and revolutionized my way of thinking . This is why this new project I have been working on is going to be related to both. I wanted to merge my new interests with my passion for beauty in all forms. I want to offer something that will help others in some way. This is why Mexico is the perfect place to start. There are several indigenous communities that need to work and to offer that work to the outside while being paid in a fair way. We want to embrace indigenous culture and our project will certainly take care of this issue. Our aim is just to help as much as we can. Starting with one community at a time, we want to be an example to follow, and we want to inspire others to think in a more communal way.
I hope you will be interested in this project as well, and I will be very happy to hear about your opinions when it is ready to be released. I want Chicmuse to be a place where discussion takes place and to encourage dialogue. I leave you with this hint of information for now and will keep you au courant of where this wonderful journey is taking me.
