cast a spell on me
From an early age, I have been inspired not only by clothing and trends, but by the stories the clothing pieces convey. For the same reason –as you have probably noted- I am always attracted to discover vintage pieces, as they are invaluable and so different from everything to our reach in any store. While shooting this dress in Versailles, I kept the story as inspired by romantic tragedy stories where the main character portays a sense of dispair and suffering while keeping the hope for her loved one to come back.
This dress was made to measure in the 1940’s by a local Belgian designer, and is a heritage piece of a personal friend from Paris born in 1946. Every detail from the embroidery is made by hand, and the quality of the velvet and the wool are still impeccable. As she tells me, it was one of the only dresses that her mom saved when they moved away during WWII. The necklace is a vintage Christian Lacroix from the 80’s.
